The Power of Gratitude - Right Here, Right Now

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Gratitude comes when we let go.  When we cease fighting what is, the glory of what can be emerges."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian
Daily Inspiration 4/11/19

The blessings during this time of uncertainty may seem obscured by current circumstances. What is there to be thankful for amidst so much unexpected loss and change? What can we do when we may feel so powerless amidst events unfolding today?

There is a lot we can do - right here, right now. Increasing our Self-care can bring peace to our hearts, minds and bodies. Let's offer a few gentle breaths into the heart and share extra compassion, kindness and patience - with ourselves and each other - right now. Let's rest in a few extra minutes of meditation and open into the hope beyond perceived powerlessness and fear. Let's consciously implement intelligent choices to care for our lives, and all life around us. And let's spend a little extra time surrendered in prayer, so we may remain inwardly attuned to the Source of Life that continues to hold us - right here, right now.

In the days to come, may we allow ourselves time to rest in the indwelling Light of hope, love, and gratitude that remains eternally alive within us all. This divine Light is not dimmed by loss and challenge. When we look closely, we can still see the inner Light shining through the eyes of gratitude and hope for what remains possible - right here, right now. Look closely. Can you see It smiling back at you?

Anchored in Unchanging Truth

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Be anchored in your innate wholeness.

That anchoring allows us to remain centered when powerful waves of change are moving through our life."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, Jewel of Abundance, pg. 182-183

When our lives are going as planned, we can get carried away in the joyful energy of the mind's desires having been met in our new home or car or job. When we are faced with life challenges, we can get carried away in the worry and stress of the new health diagnosis or unexpected financial expense or change in relationship. In either case, we can increase our ultimate suffering by redirecting our vital force towards these changing circumstances and our reactions to them, as we step away from our daily meditation and spiritual practices.

As we mature in Yoga, our attachment to our happy and fear-based reactions serves as a call to unplug from these emotional states of mind. Instead, we redirect our attention and awareness within and into our spiritual practices so we can anchor our true joy, clarity, courage, and peace in the Wholeness that remains UNchanged in the presence of all life circumstances. Because the truth is that most of us want more than temporary happiness or a temporary reprieve from fear and suffering.

Most of us want to live anchored in the Source of happiness, fulfillment, courage, and peace that is stronger and more eternal than any changing physical condition. And we all can - when we live the spiritual practices that keep us anchored within the truth of what we are. Will you take a few minutes to stop, sit in silence, and anchor yourself in your Self right now?

The Transforming Power of Grace

Paula Whang-Ramos

"The transforming power of divine grace is at work in our lives right now.
It becomes evident to us when we learn to claim it and cooperate with it."

~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, CSE Founder, 02/29/2020

The entrance to Blue Lotus Center is in a welcoming little courtyard with a variety of flowers, plants and lovely greenery. However, for many years, the planter box in front of BLC had a large space where a tree used to be. Then, last year, our beloved landlord planted baby trees in the courtyard! For many months, their skinny, naked branches kept their blossoming beauty hidden from us all.

And then, last week, amidst all the challenge and loss in which we have been living, this skinny little stick tree began to bloom. From branches that appeared lifeless, several tiny radiant green leaves began sprouting! These small but mighty buds can serve as important reminders of the providence in which we live. From beneath seemingly lifeless circumstances is the potential for new growth and the reminder of the grace that supports us through the blessings and challenges of our lives.

Choose Peace Through Meditation

Paula Whang-Ramos

“We have thousands of choices every day about what we will put our attention on,
what thoughts we will cultivate and believe, and what we will allow to influence us.
What are you choosing now?"

~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, 02/08/2020

These days, it seems too easy for the mind to be overwhelmed with the overflow of news stories detailing more information than we can usefully comprehend. If the stories elicit fear or stressful reactions from us, then our minds can wander even further from the peace, clarity and wisdom we need to respond to current events.

Meditation is an ancient remedy for the reactive, distracted, undisciplined mind. In meditation, we can learn to quiet the mind and rest in an inner peace that remains uncompromised by changing thoughts, emotions and circumstances. From our own inner stillness, we can choose to step back from the news and our reactions to it. We can broaden our view of life that continues to express itself in so many ways. Perhaps even in our own gardens, we can be inspired at the beauty that boldly presents itself, even during these uncertain times. And, we can choose to allow this power of life to remind us that all life circumstances do change, and this too shall pass.
