Divine Wonder Beneath Worry

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Everything in our life has led us to this moment of opening to realization. Everything that we have learned, experienced, celebrated,

or regretted is part of the great trajectory of now arising in the very moment we encounter the way of Self-realization.”
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, The Jewel of Abundance, pg.60

The possibility to open into our essential wholeness and goodness does not only arise when life is going smoothly. Through spiritual practice, we realize how the wholeness of the Source of Life is present, even during worrisome times in our lives as well. When we can remember and choose to live from this ever-present Source of wonder and possibility regardless of life circumstance, then we can learn to use life challenges as opportunities to grow even more deeply in the peace, love and wholeness that we took birth for.

Join us at CSE this morning when I will be offering the Sunday sermon. Being Spiritually Awake

Paula Whang-Ramos

"One who is spiritually awake learns mastery over thoughts and feelings - they no longer get to run the show."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, The Jewel of Abundance, pg. 94

I love the two powerful teachings that I hear in Yogacharya's inspiration. First, our daily spiritual practice helps us realize that we are not our thoughts and our feelings, regardless of how strong they may seem in the moment. We are the unchanging inner witness of these temporary reactions that flow through the mind. As we begin to spiritually awaken to the truth of our wholeness, we realize that these mind stories only have power over us if and when we give them our attention and awareness to do so.

Second, being "spiritually awake" does not mean that we no longer have unexpected or uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. Rather, when these reactions do arise, we can recognize them, and rely on our steadfast spiritual practice to help us correct our inner course from emotional reactivity to mental stress into spiritually conscious responding that serves the highest good of all.

Open To Divine Wisdom

Paula Whang-Ramos

"We recall that infinite creative possibility exists within us."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, The Jewel of Abundance, pg. 200

Have you ever had that experience where you unsuccessfully thought and tried and struggled to come up with a solution to a problem in your life? And, then when you've all but given up, the perfect alternative just pops into your head? For me, the inspiration often arises during the performance of mundane activities, like washing the dishes. Now, we know it is not the act of cleaning dishes that invites wisdom to arise. So, how is it that inspiration arises when we least expect it?

By conscious choice or simply fatigue, we stop trying to seek solutions by rearranging mental and physical circumstances. We give ourselves a break from the endless mental stories of "what if, if only, and shoulda, woulda, coulda". As the mind becomes quiet, our attention and awareness can relax within. And from this inner peace, we can open into divine wisdom that waits to be heard by us. This divine wisdom is Wholeness flowing through us with all we need to remember and to live in the abundance of inspired possibility that indwells us all.

The Great Bliss Adventure

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Live your life as a great bliss adventure.  Be willing to follow what has heart and meaning...
Let go of attachment to how you think things should be and allow the soul to lead."

~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, The Jewel of Abundance, pg. 239

Yoga philosophy is based on the perspective of One Source that expresses as all we see, know, and experience throughout time and history and even in the cosmos. This Source is complete, peace filled, loving and good as It continually expresses these qualities throughout all of life as we know it. In Yoga, we are individual expressions of this One Source. This means that all of Its creative power, wholeness and essential goodness is also within us. Unchanged by the passage of time and all earth and interplanetary changes, is this indwelling divine power and presence that expresses within and around us.

When we live our lives as a great bliss adventure, we consciously open into this inner Source of eternal wholeness within us all. We still experience happy and sad life circumstances, but we do not define ourselves by these ever-changing earth life experiences. Instead we ground our existence from a deeper inner soul consciousness, the consciousness of the Source within that remains ever peaceful, loving and complete. And when we do, then the eternal, unshakable bliss of the soul naturally arises and blesses us from within, opening us into divine possibilities for joy and fulfillment beyond the mind's imagination. Life becomes a bliss adventure!

Doorways Into Love

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Grief and delight still have a place in our heart, and either can become a doorway to divine love."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian, The Jewel of Abundance, pg. 230

Grief is a normal response to loss and change in our lives. Delight is a normal response to a desired experience. From a mental and emotional perspective, these responses, and the contexts in which they occur, may seem quite different.

However, from a spiritual perspective, these seemingly divergent experiences can serve the same function. Both of these experiences can serve as powerful catalysts to open us into an inner consciousness that transcends our earth-life experiences. Whether our hearts break open from grief or delight, this opening is a potential invitation to be inspired and healed from the inside out, by the Source of unconditional love that remains ever-present and constant through all of life's changes. When we learn to live from, and return to, the inner stability of this unchanging Force for Good, then we can access Its inner strength, clarity, and unconditional love to ground and guide us through ever-changing earth experiences and our reactions to them.
