Guided By Deeper Wisdom

Paula Whang-Ramos

"When awareness is removed from egocentric conditions, spontaneous perceptions of cosmic consciousness may occur."
Roy Eugene Davis, Paramahansa Yogananda As I Knew Him, 2018, pg. 89

Imagine having the clarity to see beyond our emotional reactions and inaccurate mental perceptions. During stressful situations, imagine being able to regularly access and live from a deeper divinely guided wisdom in a way that serves the highest good of all, including ourselves. Even more, imagine living in an unbounded consciousness that experiences everything as held in this highest Wholeness, and being able to live in/from that deeper wisdom and peace, even during turbulent times.

The philosophy and practices of Kriya Yoga that Paramahansa Yogananda brought to the USA 100 years ago offer a pathway to learn and live in this more spiritually conscious way. In this day and age, it may be difficult to imagine how such a way of living could even be possible. If so, then join us as we conclude our contemplative book study of Paramahansa Yogananda As I Knew Him by Mr. Roy Eugene Davis, a spiritual student of Yogananda. Mr. Davis' life is a contemporary example of how these ancient teachings can offer a practical and deeply spiritually fulfilling way of living, even in our current culture.

During this time of great change, ground your Self in opportunities to go within and experience the peace and clarity that is so needed now. Join us this Wednesday as we meditate and explore Kriya Yoga and the wisdom, clarity, and peace that this life can offer. Also, join us this Thursday for Living In Freedom, as we meditate and continue our spiritual study of the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Yogic spiritual text recommended by Yogananda and the Teachers in this Kriya tradition. Newcomers and all are welcome at both events.

Turn Toward Inner Silence

Paula Whang-Ramos

To a young disciple who asked, "Why is my mind restless?" Master (Yogananda) replied, "Because you talk too much."
Paramahansa Yogananda As I Knew Him, Davis, 2018, pg. 54

Like the young disciple, we may wonder why our minds are so easily distracted, reactive, and generally undisciplined. At times, it may seem that our minds have a mind of their own! And, while Yogananda's reply may seem a bit blunt, it may still be quite true.

There are 2 ways that we can talk too much. We can use our out-loud voice and talk too much with others. And, we can use our inside voice, and talk too much to ourselves in our minds. From a yogic perspective, both situations involve turning away from the inner silence and peace that resides beneath the seemingly endless chatter of the mind.

When we meditate, we learn to discipline the mind by becoming a disciple to our inner peace and joy, as Yogacharya O'Brian tells us. This unconditional soul stillness remains unchanged by even the most passionate inner or outer dialogue. When we learn to listen and follow the divine inner wisdom that can be revealed in meditative consciousness, then our minds become calmer, and our speech is inspired by this peace.

Limitless Soul Qualities

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Discard the false belief that there is a separation between spiritual and material life...
In everything that you do, express your limitless soul qualities."

~ Paramahansa Yogananda in Paramahansa Yogananda As I Knew Him, Davis, 2005, pg. 121.

Paramahansa Yogananda reminds us of the foundational Yogic teaching of an essential Wholeness in which we all live, and that lives through us. Contrary to the mind's attempts to do so, this Wholeness is not divided into sections in our lives. We do not have a "spiritual life" and "the rest of our life". There is only One Life, in which we live and breathe and have our being, as Yogacharya so beautifully reminds us. If this is so, then how can we access and live in this Wholeness? How can we call on it, and not our emotionally reactive mind, to express, inspire, and guide us through our daily lives?

Join us this Wednesday, as we begin our contemplative book study of Paramahansa Yogananda As I Knew Him. With the guidance of his Spiritual Teacher Paramahansa Yogananda, be inspired by the way in which Mr. Davis learned and lived this teaching of Oneness in all aspects of his life. See what is possible when we realize and live from the limitless soul qualities that indwell us all. Meditate with us as we contemplate and listen into the soul qualities that yearn to be uniquely expressed through each of us right now.

Live In the Highest Way

Paula Whang-Ramos

"Life has to be lived. Why not live it in the highest way?"
~ Paramahansa Yogananda in Paramahansa Yogananda As I Knew Him,
Davis, 2018, pg. 52.

Paramahansa Yogananda, a beloved Spiritual Teacher in our tradition, offers a simple question that invites us to contemplate how we can spiritualize our lives. What would our lives be like if we were living in the highest way? What change is called for from within us to align our intentions, thoughts, words, and actions with our highest good? When we do become emotionally reactive, mentally stressed, or overwhelmed, how can we make inner course corrections into the highest good of all, including our Selves?

Upon deeper contemplation, we can realize that the wisdom discerned from these questions arises from the process of living into them, and not from simply answering them one time. Next Wednesday, we will begin our contemplative book study of Paramahansa Yogananda As I Knew Him by Mr. Roy Eugene Davis. Join us for a time of meditation and inner exploration into higher life questions that reveal our own essential joy, goodness, and peace.
