Soul Victory Over Fear
Paula Whang-Ramos

"My limbs grow limp, my mouth becomes dry, my body trembles, and my hair stands on end.
My bow slips from my hand, my skin burns as with fever; I am unable to stand firm, my mind wavers
."
Bhagavad Gita 1:29-30

In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna has been groomed his entire life to be an effective warrior and a leader to fight for righteousness. And the night before this huge battle begins, Arjuna is terrified and refuses to fight. At some point in our lives, we have all been there, right? We work hard to achieve a goal, then life fails to unfold the way we thought it would and we feel unprepared for what actually occurs. We may initially react in fear, overwhelm, and frustration. Like Arjuna, maybe we even consider quitting, despite our previous hard work. In that moment when our egos are unsatisfied and scared, the relevant question is not why life is so unfair. The relevant question is How will I choose to respond to this life circumstance?

This tradition of Kriya Yoga offers many time-tested spiritual practices to help us catch our breath and calm our minds after our initial emotional reactions. We realize that, while fear is a normal reaction to the mind, it is only one of many responses we can choose in the presence of unexpected change or loss. With consistent practice, we realize that a life lived in fear is a bar set much too low for the quality and dignity of soul-inspired lives we all deserve. We recognize that the inner battle to free ourselves from mental fear is worth the life of Wholeness, inner peace, wisdom-guided clarity, and joy that we can choose to live in this lifetime. Join us for meditation and Bhagavad Gita study. Experience how we can achieve inner victory in the soul!

The Power Of The Self
Paula Whang-Ramos

"Time to raise our game! The Bhagavad Gita says it perfectly: 'Raise your self by your Self'."
~Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian CSE Daily Inspiration 09/17/2025

The Bhagavad Gita is a deeply inspiring, ancient story of our spiritual awakening. It metaphorically describes a timeless, universal inner path of enlightenment available to sincere seekers from all traditions, cultures, and backgrounds. The wisdom revealed in the Gita is vitally relevant for those of us who want to live in the peace, courage, and wholeness of the Self now.

In Chapter 1 of the Gita, we meet the Kuru family, which represents the mental qualities of our lower self, such as self-centeredness, emotional reactivity, strong ego attachments to superficial and transient things and circumstances, and mental rigidity (Gita 1:8-11). Fortunately, we also meet the Pandu family, which represents the mental qualities of our higher Self, such as skillful thoughts, words, and actions; even-mindedness in all situations; faith-based determination; higher intelligence; enthusiasm; mastery of mental and sensory impulses; peace; concentrated discipline; courage; and happiness
(Gita 1:4-6).

How can we raise our self by the Self when both Kuru lower self qualities and Pandu higher Self qualities reside within us all? One inner path into the Self is Kriya Yoga. The philosophy and practices of Kriya Yoga help us UN-learn unskillful ways of thinking and living. And Kriya Yoga offers practical, time-tested lifestyle choices to mature our consciousness so we can live from the wholeness of the Self. As we learn to follow the Pandu mind into our higher Self, our lives naturally become emanations of the clarity, courage, peace, and love that we yearn for and deserve now.

The Power Of Yoga
Paula Whang-Ramos

"Because the confusion and despair that some devotees experience during early stages of spiritual growth
may indicate that necessary transformative changes must occur if the devotee is to be restored
to right understanding, this temporary phase of despondency is also called yoga
."
~Roy Eugene Davis, The Eternal Way: The Inner Meaning of the Bhagavad Gita, p. 2

On the path of spiritual awakening, we all have life experiences that take our breath away. To the ego mind, these moments are often called "obstacles, problems, and challenges" to be controlled, overcome, or avoided. But to the one living in yoga, we intentionally choose to experience these unexpected moments as divine opportunities and possibilities. Yes, we may need time to process or grieve unexpected life losses, but we do not use those reactions to limit or define the meaning, value, and integrity of our lives.

Yoga is the binding back or returning of our awareness into our essential Wholeness as spiritual beings. Yoga is not turning to our true Self. It is the returning, the repeated turning, again and again, of our awareness into It. When we forget, when we fall down, when we misstep in our lives, yoga is the conscious choice to use those moments as divine opportunities and possibilities to spiritually mature into the space created from a life loss.

In yoga consciousness, we realize that every moment contains within it the opportunity to restore our awareness into our essential wholeness. With steadfast yoga practice, we learn how to return and thrive in the soul wholeness that indwells us all. When we live from this right understanding of what we are, then we experience more soul-empowered clarity, energy, and joy. This is the power of yoga.
