Infinite Possibility and Peace

Paula Whang Ramos

"Sometimes we imagine that the Divine will give us support in a particular endeavor.

But the Divine is our entire support, expressed in infinite ways."

Although I am not very interested in actual home remodeling projects, I am sometimes inspired by home remodeling television shows. I admire how the hosts can see beyond the limitations of an old, broken down house. Instead they envision a beautifully transformed home, yet to be revealed. They seem unintimidated by the physical walls and broken foundation that must be removed before the vision of the new home can be realized. The hosts remain flexible to unexpected surprises, and open to inspiration as they use their vital force to remain steadfast in the realization of their inspired vision. And, by the end of the show, an amazing, beautiful new home with a strong foundation is revealed!

The skillful remodeling of a home is much like our spiritual practice. Holding our focus in divine possibility, we can see beyond apparent circumstantial barriers into the vision of our essential wholeness. We can use our spiritual practice to courageously open to change, to remove inner walls of limitation and illusions of brokenness, and to follow divine intuition into opportunities far beyond our own best planning. With steadfast practice, we can realize the infinite possibility of peace, love and wholeness that lives within us all.

Return to Peace

Paula Whang Ramos

"Focusing on the faults of others impedes our spiritual progress.
The only truly effective work we can do is on ourselves.
There is great power in embracing our own work."

~ Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian

This has been a difficult week of violence and unrest in our communities and our world. If we remain outwardly focused on the actions of others, we can feel very frustrated about how to respond. This occurs because we are focusing our vital force 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Our sense of powerlessness will continue as long as we try to change that which is beyond our control.

If we want more peace and wisdom in our lives, our families and our communities, then we must begin by redirecting our vital force back into the inner peace that we have turned away from. In spiritual maturity, we realize our own frustration as an inner soul calling to return to the Source of peace within. Again and again, we consciously choose to return to inner peace as the guide to redirect our thoughts, words and actions, so we can be the change we want to see in the world now.

The Secret of Spiritual Life

Paula Whang Ramos

"There should be complete harmony between the inner spirit and the outer life.

The qualities of the soul must inspire and perfect all aspects of self-expression.

This is the secret of spiritual life."

~ Lahiri Mahasaya

When we are new to the spiritual path, we may believe that we live two separate lives. We have our spiritual life, such as our meditation and prayer practice, and then we have the rest of our life - our personal, family, work and social life. As we mature on the spiritual path, we release the illusion of separation between our spiritual existence and how it is expressed through our earth life. We deepen our conscious awareness of the unity that underlies spirit and nature.

Continuing on our path of awakening, we realize the peace and clarity that naturally arises from within, when we live in alignment with our inner soul wisdom and joy. Even during those moments when we forget and react from the emotional, reactive mind, we can hear our spiritual wisdom reminding us of our choice to make the course correction back into the indwelling peace, love and wisdom of the soul. In this way, even our so called "mistakes" can become useful opportunities to refine the spiritual practice of remembering what we are and how to live from that Truth. And, everything becomes part of our spiritual life.

The Key to Peace Now

Paula Whang Ramos

"The key to the peace, security, and happiness we yearn for is within our own consciousness.

The resources needed to make a difference in the world are hidden in our own hearts."
~ Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian

Yogacharya's inspiration reminds me of the Divine Wholeness that flows through us all. It is inherently peaceful because all of Its authentic needs are already met. It is not harmed, weakened or broken by our changing thoughts, words, actions or circumstances. This wholeness indwells us and every situation in our lives. Its peace, security and happiness is available in every relationship and circumstance we experience.

To live and freely share these qualities, we must consciously claim our spiritual wholeness - again and again. When we realize that our attention and awareness has wandered too deeply into worldly circumstances and we feel powerless or frustrated, we can use those sensations as reminders to return within, and reclaim our essential wholeness. From this inner Reality, we can experience and respond to the world from the peace that we are, and that is so needed in our world now.
